So I'm still seeing the "pauses" with DarkForce running under WiFi.
Honestly, I hate it. This is what it looks like when it happens during
a screen draw:
So...sometime this week I might temporarily switch back to the Lantronix UDS-1o with RAW mode
settings, just to see how it acts then.
So if you login and it says "Press <ASCII> Return"....well, just hit <return>. :)
Er....well, I had actually already removed the WiFi extender. I didn't want anything in the path of the "path" that I could easily remove. So those ping times above are without it.
I never tried it with the extender in place. Not sure that would be helpful.
Now this makes sense.. Not the modem, its the WiFi extender. Try to trace ping without the WiFi extender, yes the signal maybe weak but will help narrow the problem.
BTW, here is ping times on one of the WiModem 232's, currently hooked to my STacy. After multiple tries, it always shows that horrible start before smoothing
out a bit. It still jumps to 5-8ms sometimes. My friend, who is the IT director at
the local county library says that anything over 4ms on WiFi is questionable, in
his humble opinion...
That's correct. Plugged directly into the Mega ST4's RS232c serial port.
Keep in mind, I even added a WiFi adapter to boost signal in my "man-cave" where the Mega ST4 is located. Previous signal was around 70-72 (which is close to the danger threshold of 80 that Jim mentions in the PDF), adding the adapter took it down to around 35-36.
So is there there a way to adjust the buffers on the WiModem 232?
Thanks.
Not sure either as why the packet would be bifurcated on DL but not others using the Wimodem such as SFHQ.. Its very strange indeed.. You have the wimodem as a direct connect to the ST? No cable right?
Not a clue. How can I check that or change the buffer settings to experiment?
Keep in mind, I've already switched back to the UDS-10 for trial purposes and all the issues mentioned above went away.
Also, the 2-3 callers (besides me) that were complaining about the same problem say after the switch back that their problems also all went away.
Go figure. /stumped...
Wow DL.. Something is defiantly not ideal. Do you think this might be a buffer setting issue with the Wimodem?
