Well, I have tried to use the Express Cart, I assume it works, I cannot get it to work. In fact with the cartridge as I have it I cannot get it to slot into any machine I have. Be it 800xl or 800 etc..
I am open to suggestions.. if you read the express cart thread, I have tried a bunch of stuff. I cannot run it in the 800xl without the cart around it, for fear of shorting things out, But no matter all the Jiggering I try - and I tried for over 20mins tonight.. I cannot get it to slot in. why? cannot say.. there is really nothing holding the board into the case, so maybe my attempts to get it is cocking it? shifting it? I dont know. On my 800 I put it in without a case.. it will boot but only to a loading config file, and nothing more.
SO if anyone wants it. I was trying to support and be involved in the community, but for the amount I use my 8-bit to bbs - this is wAAY too much work. If its pop it in and go.. great.. this is so much frustration.
Thanks so much AMIS, I was not trying to say that anything you did was incorrect or not very generous in doing.. I am just saying I am not savy enough it would seem to get it fit and work.
Has anyone got this to fit - in the case in an 800?? I can get it in without the case. I would like to use this in my 1088xel as well.. which I guess also does not NEED the case.. but an 800xl the door would short something I am sure.
The cartridge case that Amis sent me works. I did have to play around with the board placement a little bit, but I got it to work on my own. I like that I don't have to use an old RTime 8 cartridge for a case. I have two RT8 carts and the plastic in both of them is old and brittle. In fact, the RT8 cart I use for my daily driver has been taped together because I had to open it a couple times to replace the battery. The RT8 no longer stays closed without some tape. I am glad I have a newer case to protect my Express Cart. If the free case from Amis is not to someone's liking, then try printing your own case or use an existing one. Thank you, Amis for all the time and resources that you generously donate to our BBS Community!

If you're using the Lantronix UDS10, follow the guide from JP. Works great and will set up the UDS10 for RAW mode.
The WiModem232 operates in RAW mode by default. No wonder you're not having a problem with it. :) To quote the manual:
"AT*T[x] – Get/Set translation mode [0/1] This command will change the translation mode. 0 = none, 1 = TELNET. If you want to log into a telnet specific site you must first change this setting to 1. Other translation types will be added in the future. Default is 0."
I don't know of any telnet BBS's right off the top of my head. DarkForce used to run with that, but after weighing all the factors carefully, I changed to RAW.
well I know its a uds thing.. because I have had it in the past, cant remember how I got rid of it.. not sure I did.. think if the bbs used TELNET, I was fine, if it was RAW . I got the double characters. Anyone still running a bbs on TELNET mode? Also I know its UDS, because if I use Wimodem or Modem Driver from APE.. I dont get the issue.
As far as the UDS-10 goes, I'm using RAW mode on it right now. JP created a user guide as to how to set it up for RAW. Not sure how that's going to help you with this problem though...
Here it is:
Double characters? That's usually local echo.
I'll buy it from ya if that's what you're looking for.
Honestly, it's "ok" and I'm kinda nostalgic for it from all my early years with 1030 Express!
But I'd probably re-flash it with the diamond cart for some experiments/dev projects I've been playing around with.
(Well, probably re-flash one of the others without a case, since I'm using it with the 1200xl's with a cart extender so it's not an issue)... Though I'll probably toss the case and get one from another vendor if it's that problematic.
Either way, I'm up for taking it off your hands if you like... you know my email.
